Metropolitan College & IEK AKMI – Alphabet Education Group

Metropolitan College and IEK AKMI, members of Alphabet Education, the largest Educational Group in Greece, are seeking a highly skilled Senior System Administrator to join our IT Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, security, and maintenance of our systems and network infrastructure across all campuses of both academic institutions.

This position includes coordination duties with IT engineers, support teams, and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth daily operations and efficient project execution.

(The role is based at the Athens Campus premises , with occasional travel to other campuses across Greece.)

Key Responsibilities

  • Administers, maintains, and optimizes the Group’s network and system infrastructure (LAN/WAN, routing, switching, firewalls, Wi-Fi, virtualization, servers, storage).
  • Designs, configures, documents, and supports network and system solutions to ensure performance, reliability, and security.
  • Manages and supports telephony environments (PBX, VoIP, SIP) and unified communications services.
  • Coordinates with IT Support and Engineering teams to integrate systems, networks, and telephony solutions into broader IT operations.
  • Monitors system and network performance, troubleshoots issues, and implements resolutions to minimize downtime.
  • Develops and applies policies, procedures, and best practices for infrastructure operations and security.
  • Evaluates new technologies and proposes improvements or upgrades for efficiency, automation, and scalability.
  • Provides technical guidance and coordination (not direct supervision) to IT teams during projects, deployments, and incident handling.
  • Contributes to knowledge-sharing and promotes skill development within the IT department.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in system and network administration.
  • Experience in coordinating technical tasks or supporting cross-functional teams (no direct leadership required).
  • Strong knowledge of networking technologies and protocols: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, switching.
  • Solid hands-on experience with Microsoft Active Directory, including group policies, domain services, and identity/access management.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Familiarity with storage systems (SAN/NAS), capacity planning, and performance optimization.
  • Strong understanding of backup systems and procedures, including disaster recovery and business continuity.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure services (Azure AD, cloud infrastructure, hybrid environments) is highly desirable.
  • Hands-on experience with telephony systems: PBX, VoIP, SIP, and unified communications platforms.
  • Proficiency with monitoring, diagnostic, and design tools for systems and networks.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to convey technical information clearly to various audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+, Microsoft or Azure certifications) are considered an asset.
