Senior Research Engineer - Energy Systems & Software

Within this framework, we are looking for an agile and highly-motivated “Energy Systems & Software Senior Research Engineer” to join a team of future shapers.

The successful candidate will coordinate research and innovation activities in the field of Smart Grid technologies for Power Systems’ Analysis and Control and Energy Management, focusing on software platforms addressed to Utilities(DSOs, TSOs)and Energy retailers, combining deep technical expertise with a strong research mindset, a track record of hands-on contribution to research projects, and a high degree of ownership and initiative. As a research engineer, the candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team, while being versatile and independent, will tackle interesting research problems and will gain expertise in beyond the state-of-the-art in the area of Power Systems and Smart Grids, driving innovation from concept to proof-of-concept and beyond.

Main Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate company’s participation in EU-funded collaborative projects.
• Take initiative in identifying research opportunities, defining technical directions, and proactively driving innovation activities across relevant domains (Smart Grids, Energy Management, Energy Communities).
• Collaborate with leading industrial and academic partners to drive innovative research outcomes and software solutions for Energy Management Power Systems’ Control.
• Lead System Architecture design and manage team of Research Engineers towards implementation of novel prototype solutions.
• Plan and coordinate participation in EU projects’ proposal preparation.
• Serve as a technical liaison between R&D initiatives and product teams ensuring smooth transfer and alignment with commercial solutions.

Requirements

• MSc (PhD preferred) in Electronic/Computer Engineering or Computer Science or related technical field.
• Programming experience in large software projects using modern techniques (microservices, APIs, data & cloud-native technologies).
• Experience in collaborative research projects, technical proposal/ deliverable writing in areas related to Electric Power Systems, Energy Management Systems, IoT, AI, Data Analytics, Cloud/Edge Computing.
• Basic knowledge on power systems (generation, transmission, distribution, flexibility) and smart grid architecture (including grid-edge devices, demand side management)
• Excellent use of English language.
• Proven technical writing and communications skills.
• Strong problem-solving, leadership, and team collaboration abilities.
• Excellent presentation skills.
• Fulfilled military obligations, where applicable

Desired Skills

• Previous experience with Technical Management or coordination of research teams.
• Experience with modern ML/DL frameworks (Keras, Tensorflow, PyTorch or similar).
