We are seeking a QC Inspector and/or NACE Coating Inspector for a petrochemical construction project starting in January 2026 in Cape Town.

This dual-discipline role involves welding and protective coating inspections to ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and standards in high-risk petrochemical environments.

Candidates with expertise in either QC (welding inspections), NACE coating inspections, or both are encouraged to apply.

You will work closely with construction, engineering, and third-party inspection teams to maintain quality, safety, and regulatory standards critical to the petrochemical industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate and maintain project Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and associated data packs.
  • Assist with project planning, mobilization, and handover documentation.
  • Inspect weld preparation, in-process welding, and final welds according to approved WPS and project standards.
  • Inspect surface preparation, environmental conditions, coating application, DFT, adhesion, and curing.
  • Monitor blasting, priming, and coating processes to ensure compliance with coating standards (e.g., SSPC, ISO, NACE).
  • Ensure welding and painting work meets API650, API563, ASME IX, AWS D1.1, and client-specific standards.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, isometrics, and coating specifications.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, NCRs, weld maps, and coating reports.
  • Coordinate with construction teams, NDT technicians, and third-party inspectors.
  • Participate in project meetings, audits, and punch list close-outs.
  • Support completion handover documentation and final data pack compilation.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Inspection Compliance & Accuracy: Percentage of welding and coating inspections completed per project ITPs and industry standards.
  • Non-Conformance Management: Number of NCRs raised, corrective action turnaround time, and recurrence rate.
  • Documentation Quality: Accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of inspection reports, weld maps, and final data packs.
  • Process Monitoring & Specification Adherence: Compliance with welding, blasting, and coating processes in the petrochemical environment.
  • Coordination & Workflow Efficiency: Effectiveness in coordinating with teams to prevent delays and rework.

Requirements

  • SAIW Level 1 or Level 2 Welding Inspector Certificate
  • NACE Coating Inspector Level 1 (or equivalent, e.g., AMPP, ICorr)
  • Valid drivers license

Advantageous:

  • API653 or API650 certification
  • Registration with SAQCC Corrosion

On-the-Job Knowledge:

  • API653, API650 standards, ASME IX, AWS D1.1
  • ISO 12944, SSPC coating standards
  • ISO9001 principles
  • Working at Heights, Confined Space Entry, Permit-to-Work

Experience

  • 5–10 years in welding and coating inspection in petrochemical or industrial projects
  • Collaboration with NDT, HSE, and project engineering teams
  • Leadership experience coordinating welders and project teams
  • Proven track record in petrochemical plant construction, fuel storage terminals, or heavy mechanical environments

Skills & Abilities

  • High attention to detail and technical accuracy
  • Skilled in using inspection tools: weld gauges, levels, DFT gauges, holiday testers, surface profile tools
  • Strong documentation and reporting skills
  • Technical drawing interpretation
  • Computer literacy: MS Office, Google Suite, QC systems
  • Effective communicator across disciplines and with external inspectors
