This role is essential for managing and supporting the firewall and broader network infrastructure within public healthcare environments. The Level 2 Network Engineer will work collaboratively with Level 1 and other Level 2/3 teams to ensure secure, stable, and efficient network operations across multiple locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Level 2 support for firewall and intrusion prevention systems (IPS)—handling setup, rule management, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support network and security devices deployed across multiple healthcare campuses.
- Maintain and optimize firewall configurations and policies in alignment with security standards.
- Respond to security incidents in coordination with the security operations team, including root cause analysis and remediation.
- Support core network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and wireless controllers.
- Participate in change management processes and assist with root cause analysis for network or security-related problems.
- Ensure SLAs are met and contribute to regular performance and incident reporting using ITSM/ITOM tools.
- Contribute to capacity planning and system optimization efforts for both firewall and network components.
- Maintain clear and updated documentation for configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and network policies.
Requirements
Must-Have:
- Diploma or degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field.
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience with firewall administration and enterprise network support.
- Strong working knowledge of firewall platforms such as Palo Alto, Fortinet, or Cisco ASA/Firepower.
- Solid understanding of key network protocols (TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, BGP, OSPF).
- Familiarity with intrusion detection/prevention systems and network security monitoring tools.
- Experience with ITSM/ITOM platforms for ticketing, incident, and change management.
- Comfortable working across multiple sites and supporting both onsite and remote environments.
- Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
Preferred:
- Certifications like CCNP Security, Fortinet NSE, or Palo Alto PCNSE.
- Background in healthcare IT or large enterprise environments.
- Knowledge of vulnerability scanning and remediation processes.
Work Environment:
- May require regular travel between healthcare facilities within a short radius.
- Involves collaboration with onsite engineers and senior support teams.
- Participation in after-hours support may be required based on operational needs
